Samsung Galaxy S10

The next Samsung Galaxy is the upcoming Galaxy Note 9, but the industry is seemingly much more excited about next years Galaxy S model. The Samsung Galaxy S10 will be the tenth-anniversary release in the iconic S lineup that gave Samsung its popularity and market dominance, and Samsung is making sure to make this a really impressive smartphone release.

Latest reports from South Korea suggests that Samsung has recently changed its tentative product specification for the lineup. The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus, which will be the next version of the large screen model in the lineup, will likely be the biggest Galaxy smartphone in terms of screen diagonal. Samsung has bumped up the screen size to 6.44-inches, likely as a reaction to reports of Apple's next iPhone model coming in with a 6.46-inch display, the largest ever for an iPhone too. If the reported specifications remain unchanged, the Galaxy S10 Plus will find itself to be even larger than the upcoming Galaxy Note 9.

The report also mentions that a total of three Samsung Galaxy S10 devices will be launched together. In addition to the regular Galaxy S10 and the large Galaxy S10 Plus, there will be a smaller device too. This "base" variant of the Galaxy S10 will come with a 5-inch display with a flat display panel instead of curved edges. The regular Galaxy S10 is expected to come with a 5.8-inch display (with a possibility of being bumped up to 6-inch too) and is likely to retain the existing curved edge display design.

The camera specifications that were reported earlier have also been changed. The base variant is likely to come with a single rear camera, the regular variant was bumped up to triple rear camera setup (from its earlier reported dual rear camera setup), while the larger variant will still come with a triple camera setup.

The report also mentions that the 3D sensor that will be included on the device will be on the rear of the device, rather than on the front. This means that its usage will be primarily intended for AR rather than for security and face recognition. The fate of the iris scanner remains hanging for now, as the product is still in the prototyping stages with all of these new technologies.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 is still a product in the distant future, so specifications will likely keep changing as Samsung tries to figure out its strategy and finalize the products. Device production is not expected to begin at all at least before August 2018, so additional adjustments to the specifications are expected.
