Xiaomi Mi 7 Will Launch With The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, CEO confirms

At the first day of the Snapdragon Tech Summit in Maui, Hawaii, Qualcomm spent much of its keynote focused on unveiling the Windows on ARM project with a set of new Windows 10 laptops powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 system-on-a-chip. However, near the end of the keynote today, Qualcomm unveiled the name of its next SoC: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. More details on this SoC will be unveiled tomorrow, but there is some news that we can share right now: Xiaomi's next flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 7, will feature the Snapdragon 845.

Xiaomi's CEO, Lei Jun, took to the stage at the Snapdragon Tech Summit to talk about its history of using Qualcomm chips in their smartphones. The CEO unveiled that over 238 million Xiaomi smartphones sold worldwide are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs. The CEO went on to boast about his company's massive growth in recent years both in China and around the world, but he also teased that their next flagship Android smartphone would have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC.

This is hardly a surprise considering that Xiaomi's most recent flagship smartphones, the Mi 6 and the Mi Mix 2, feature the Snapdragon 835. At a round-table discussion with journalists after the event (via 9to5Google), Xiaomi's CEO confirmed that its Xiaomi Mi 7 flagship smartphone would be its first to sport the Snapdragon 845. The CEO also went on to again discuss the possibility of releasing a smartphone in the United States, but stated that there is still some work to be done on that front.

Xiaomi is well known for offering smartphones with premium specifications at a competitive price point, though many lament the fact that their smartphones are rarely usable in the United States due to a lack of compatible LTE bands. Xiaomi is most popular in India and China, two of the world's largest smartphone markets, where the company regularly runs out of smartphone stock in mere minutes due to the popularity of their brands.
