Huawei Working on a Dual Screen, Foldable Phone

Just recently ZTE kicked off what appears to be a budding craze, by showcasing the Axon M at an event the other day. The ZTE device beat Samsung to the market (though both are tacking a different approach to foldable devices), and now it seems that Huawei wants to get in on the craze too. In an interview with CNET, Richard Yu (the CEO of Huawei) said that a Huawei dual screen, foldable phone is already in progress and a prototype has been made.

The ZTE Axon M has shown to us that dual screen can actually work, as we discovered that the device is actually nice to use and the concept is intuitive. With a wide range of feature potential for dual screen phones, it isn't really just a gimmick. Huawei and Samsung have both realized this, and it seems their dual-screen devices are slated for 2018. What's currently stopping the Huawei made device is the lack of flexible screen technology, better mechanical design and a gap in between both of the screens which may be particularly jarring to users who want to stretch media across both of their screens.

Where is this dual screen trend going? Will more manufacturers launch phones with dual screens? It's not quite a gimmick, but it can be an annoyance when dealing with cases and slippery backs of phones. It also needs to be done correctly, as otherwise, the device will be poor, and the additional component or manufacturing costs might result in compromises elsewhere in the phone. It is understandable that we are seeing this kind of advancement, however, as phones don't really innovate as much nowadays. Some small performance and build changes, but not much beyond trends like dual cameras and smaller bezels. We'll keep an eye out for any other manufacturers looking to launch dual screen phones, but what do you think? Will you even be buying a dual screen device from Huawei, Samsung or ZTE?
