AutoInput Update Mimics the OnePlus 5T's Face Unlock Feature on any Android 7.0+ Phone

If you're anything like me, you're probably the kind of person who likes to automate their device to keep up with your workflow, your lifestyle, and yourself. And if you're heavy into automation, you've probably already heard of the name "AutoInput".

For those not in the loop, AutoInput is a nifty little Tasker plugin which allows the user to automate virtually any UI menu inside of their device. When set up, the application will be able to automatically navigate through UI elements like buttons and list views. Paired with Tasker, it can create infinite automation possibilities for users. AutoInput has now received another feature, giving any phone with Android 7.0 Nougat and up some OnePlus 5T goodies.

One of the talked about features on the OnePlus 5T is facial recognition, which is critically acclaimed (just like the fingerprint scanner) because of its speed, as it apparently works better than Google's own Trusted Face unlock feature under Smart Lock. While this speed is likely the result of OnePlus optimizations and thus can't be ported to other devices that easily, AutoInput does make Trusted Face a lot more convenient that it already is. Just like the OnePlus 5T, when using AutoInput, the phone will immediately bypass the lockscreen entirely when you look at it, instead of just unlocking the phone like it already does.

We should mention that this is likely not as secure as OnePlus's Face Unlock implementation claims to be since OnePlus' implementation is not a part of Smart Lock, and is currently exclusive to the OnePlus 5T. But Trusted Face combined with AutoInput does make a difference, placing it right there with the OnePlus 5T in terms of convenience.

While Trusted Face has been around since Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, face detection technology has been improving greatly during the past few years. Nowadays, it's clear that face unlock is making a comeback as an alternative to fingerprint unlock, as Apple has ditched the latter with the iPhone X, favoring face unlocking instead. For those that prefer convenience over security, Face Unlock holds great potential.
