HTC U12 (Imagine) Leaked Specs include 5.9-inch QHD+ Display and Snapdragon 845

Mobile World Congress 2018 may not have been as big as previous years, but a lot of Android OEMs were at the event. We saw Samsung, Nokia, Sony, ASUS and even smaller companies like ZTE make an appearance and show us what they have to offer for this year. There was one company missing, a heavy hitter that we would normally expect to see. HTC and its next flagship device, the HTC U12, were nowhere to be seen.

Declining profits and the acquisition by Google of part of HTC's smartphone division may have something to do with the company not attending, though that's just speculation. Whether HTC's financial status is relevant or not, @LlabTooFeR on Twitter has information on the HTC U12 (codenamed Imagine) that shows HTC is still alive and kicking.

Firstly, the HTC U12 will come with a Snapdragon 845, the latest processor from Qualcomm. It makes sense, but last year we saw HTC's reluctance to include the latest Snapdragon processor. They opted for the Snapdragon 821 in the U Ultra when the 835 was available. We like to see the latest generation of processing technology being used in the latest devices. The U12 will also have 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage, presumably with microSD support like the HTC U11, but that isn't confirmed. The display will come in at 5.99-inches and will be QHD+, suggesting an 18:9 aspect ratio at 1440×2880 pixels. As promised, there is a dual camera setup on the back comprising of a 12MP camera and a 16MP camera, which is a Sony sensor in the IMX 300 series. The front camera will be 8MP. It will also launch with a single SIM version and a dual SIM version.

As for other goodies, the battery is 3,420mAh and the device is IP68 rated. This means the device is dust and wind resistant along with being water resistant up to 1.5 meters submerged for up to half an hour. It will also have HTC's face unlock and Edge Sense 2.0 as part of HTC's Sense 10 Android skin. The device will launch with Android Oreo and thus have full Project Treble support. It will also support the A/B partitioning scheme that many OEMs don't seem too fond of picking up at the moment (except for Motorola, Essential, and devices in the Android One program).

It's unknown when the device will launch or what it will cost. Since this is such a huge leak with the latest generation Qualcomm processor, it's likely we'll see the HTC U12 arrive soon.
