OnePlus 6 launched in India, price starts at Rs. 34,999

The OnePlus 6 was globally launched yesterday at an event in London. Regional pricing for India wasn't revealed at the event, because OnePlus had already scheduled a separate event in Mumbai, India, on May 17. At the Mumbai event, the company officially launched the phone in India, along with the Marvel Avengers limited edition.

OnePlus has only launched two variants of the phone in India. The base variant of the OnePlus 6 has 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, while the higher-end variant has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The 8GB RAM/256GB storage variant of the device was not launched in the country. This means that if Indian buyers need a OnePlus 6 with 256GB of storage, their only option will be to go for the OnePlus 6 Marvel Avengers Limited Edition, which costs Rs. 44,999 ($664).

The 6GB RAM/64GB storage variant of the phone costs Rs. 34,999 ($517), while the 8GB RAM/128GB storage variant will be available for Rs. 39,999 ($591). Both variants are Rs. 2000 more expensive than the OnePlus 5T's 6GB RAM and 8GB variants. Although OnePlus opted not to increase the Indian pricing with the launch of the OnePlus 5T in November, the company has increased the global as well as Indian pricing for its successor.

OnePlus 6 variants Pricing
6GB of RAM with 64GB of storage Rs. 34,999
8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage Rs. 39,999
Marvel Avengers Limited Edition (8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage) Rs. 44,999

The OnePlus 6 is an Amazon exclusive in the country. It will be available in an Early Access sale on May 21 for Amazon Prime subscribers, while general availability will start a day later on May 22.

The phone will also go on sale via popup stores across eight Indian cities. The sales will be held between 3:30 PM and 8 PM on May 21 and between 11 AM and 7 PM on May 22. They will be held at High Street Phoenix in Mumbai, Phoenix MarketCity in Pune, The Forum Vijaya in Chennai, The Forum Sujana in Hyderabad, DLF Place Saket, Delhi, South City Mall in Kolkata, Gulmohar Park Mall in Ahmedabad, and OnePlus Experience Store, Brigade Road, in Bengaluru.

Full specifications of the OnePlus 6 can be viewed here. We have also posted our first impressions of the device. At the event, OnePlus also stated that it's one of the market leaders in India's premium smartphone market, along with Apple and Samsung. The OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T were well-received in the country, and were highly rated on Amazon India.

The company also explained their rationale for opting to switch to an "all-glass" design. The main reasons for moving to glass from metal was to enhance signal transmission. OnePlus could also customize the glass design more than a metal build. Finally, glass is also said to look "more beautiful."

Similarly, wireless charging is not available on the OnePlus 6 because the company feels that fast wired charging — in the form of Dash Chargingis still a better proposition. It will adopt wireless charging in its phones only when it feels that the tech is ready.

The OnePlus Wireless Bullets wireless earphones will be available in India for Rs. 3999. The exact release date hasn't been detailed yet.

Launch offers: Consumers who pre-booked the phone in the Fast AF sale will get additional benefits: 3 months additional warranty and Rs. 1000 cashback in the form of Amazon Pay balance, over and above the additional launch offers.

Users can get Rs. 2000 cashback if they buy the phone using SBI debit or credit cards. Idea is also offering a Rs. 2000 cashback along with 1TB of 4G data. An Amazon Pay gift card worth Rs. 250 is also being offered, along with discounts up to Rs. 500 for purchasing e-books via Amazon Kindle. Finally, benefits "up to Rs. 25,000" will be available on flight and hotel bookings from ClearTrip.

Finally, OnePlus announced that it will be opening five new OnePlus Experience stores in India this year, along with ten service centers.
